David G. Thorell

With hearts full of sorrow and yet joy in his salvation, we remember a man whose life was defined by his deep love for Christ and his unwavering faith. Assured of his salvation and at peace in the promises of the Lord, David lived each day as a gift from God—often ending the evening with a contented smile and the simple words, “It was a good day.”

His walk with Christ shaped every part of his life. He embodied the words of Romans 12:15, rejoicing with those who rejoiced and weeping with those who wept, sharing in the joys and burdens of others.

In faithful obedience to the commandment to honor his father and mother, he lovingly cared for his parents in their later years, demonstrating a true servant’s heart. He was preceded in death by his father, Phillip, his brother, Larry, his sister-in-law Laura, and his niece Krista.

His love for Scripture was remarkable. As a testament to both his devotion and his extraordinary memory, he memorized extensive portions of the Bible, including the entire books of Psalms, Proverbs, and the Gospel of John. He loved to listen to and study God’s Word daily. It was not only hidden in his heart—it was evident in the way he lived.

David absolutely adored his nieces and nephews—and their children—and was a beloved and favorite uncle to them all. He spent many hours looking at their pictures on “the frame”. His legacy of faith, laughter, and kindness will live on in each of their lives.

He is survived by his loving mother, Lois; his siblings Alan (Neysa), Gail (Bruce), Carole (Tim), and Brad (Kim); and 11 cherished nieces and nephews.

While we grieve his absence, we do so with confidence, knowing he is at peace in the presence of his Savior, whom he loved so dearly. His was truly a life well lived—and even on the day of his death we can still hear him saying “today was a good day!”
